Ottawa: A Small Slice of Heaven

When I caught myself looking at condo prices in Ottawa, I realized how much I was in love with this city! Of course, the reality also hit that I'm not a Canadian citizen, and that I'd have to snowbird to Florida for 4 months every year. Anyone have a job connection at the U.S. Embassy?

My $22/night AirBnB room was 8 miles west of downtown with a bike path in the back yard that led to the larger Ottawa River path. Trust me, the car never moved! I was also a 15 minute walk to the nearest sandy beach along the River which had live music and a cafe. This is living!

Ottawa is wonderful, and offers a lifestyle of city spectacles combined with rivers and green space galore. While I did tour my "must see" spots, I could have spent another week here cycling, people watching at cafes, visiting the National Gallery of Art or The Royal Canadian Mint (no pennies in Canada). I completely understand the pride and joy that Ottawans feel (and show) for their city.  In 2017, Canada celebrates 150 years as a nation, and Ottawa will be ready.

I took more than 250 photos but here's the Cliff Note version of my Ottawa experiences!

Thanks for visiting! While my email box is full of messages, I'm getting very few blog comments these days! Loved Ottawa so easy to pull this one together from the mass of photos. Just one more day in Quebec City and on to the family roots!

I can see why you find "Outaouais" so captivating. . .both man-made and natural edifices are quite impressive---the starry basilica ceilings, the candy-striped tent room, the Remic Rapids project, bridges, canals, pathways, etc. I want to use ice skating photo for Xmas card! Seeing the amount of stonework, I'm again reminded of photos of Pepere working the granite quarries of Fall River. Thanks for sharing.

Anne ... interesting that you used the French word for Ottawans as there's a definite rivalry between Ontario and Quebec provinces that is quite obvious now that I've been in both places back to back. To be discussed!

Gary!
I'm so glad you're following! Ottawa really lived up to my expectations and I highly recommend it! Left Quebec City 4 days ago but now on the St Lawrence River coast and in relax mode. That update to come soon. Hope you're getting some summer vaca in!

Didn't realize Ottawa had so much to offer. The photos of Parliament and the gardens, Hotel, church are all so spectacular. We are so lucky to be seeing Canada thru your eyes because you do it such justice.

NO IDEA about Ottawa - what a well kept secret! Can't decide where I want to go the most, this world is amazing! The stars in the cathedral ceiling--marble you think? Many yrs. ago when visiting London I brought my boys back 'GI Joe' dolls outfits exactly like your pics. The big hat etc.... memories. Parachute bikes! Hitler's car-and can I come to your party in the Tent Room? lo
