In The City of Roses

8/4/2015

It's been nearly a week since I left Portland so I'm looking back at the various reactions I had to the city. I stayed at a hostel in one of my old neighborhoods, and suffice to say that I'm either too old or not at all hip enough to live here now! Honestly, I don't think I'd look good in dreadlocks.

While it's still a beautiful city that is surrounded by natural wonders, I can't say I'd pick Portland today. It has serious traffic, slacker and homeless issues. Perhaps I've been living in small towns for too long!?

That said, it was great to return to some old haunts and have some laughs with friends who have known me quite a while!

Must be disappointing to think Portland has changed so much that you wouldn't want to live there now. Sounds like you had a great time with all your friends and your photos always bring out the best in the region your in, which makes everyone want to go there.

Must say I loved that 40th Birthday Party! Looking forward to seeing where you end up next.

Claudette,
Yes, Portland has grown so much. Perhaps I'd love it more if I didn't see it before the boom!? Overpopulation is killing this planet!

Did I hear just a hint of you missing small town Easton? :) Hope you had your stop at the Sonoma Resort. I'm anxiously awaiting that!

Karen,
Thanks for that laugh :). No, it was just sad to see Portland overbuilt and overrun. It makes me so happy that I spent time in Austin this year as I see that city looking sadly different in 3-5 years. Trying to catch up here in the next few days; have already seen Crater Lake, the Redwoods, Sonoma and now with pal in San Rafael. Life is rushing by!

I remember your cute 4 Plex and this neighbor with the huge German Shepard in the backyard, Wonder what became of him?

Eileen ... VERY funny! I believe that neighbor left the same day I approached! Is it me or are barking dogs a pattern in my life?
