Florida in August?

Who in their right mind would go to Florida at summer's end? I've been asking myself that question for the past week. It made sense when I planned it -- to celebrate my birthday with friends, leave my car in a safe spot while abroad, and glean the cheapest airfare found among five airports. A no-brainer! 
 
I did have a great birthday beginning with a mail package of cards & surprises, numerous calls & texts & emails, cycling, lunch, fun & games, and of course, pie! The year certainly started out right! Many thanks to you early birds on the mail delivery, and I look forward to  another day of fun mail in late October. 

Now, let's flash-forward just a hair, and it's been a week of tick removal, a category 5 hurricane scare, and an auto service headache that continues. Am I stressed? Just a bit. Am I tired? Oh yeah. Am I getting on a plane in 6 hours? Yes, and I can't wait to get into the travel void!

So, where to next? It's the Dalmation Coast for the next five weeks. While I'd planned to tour the Greek Islands after 30 years of pondering it, unfortunately, I've waited too long. When I started researching, it seemed expensive, very touristy, and not that easy to do the island hopping thing. So, when a friend suggested Croatia, I took a close look, and it seems to be the trip I envisioned (just along a different sea). I'll soon find out! 

Off I must go now ... not sure I'll be blogging at all while away, perhaps checking email on occasion, definitely not connected via phone! Travel stories to come...
