Within an hour of roaming Flagstaff, I "got" this place, it's Burlington, Vermont West. No lie! There may not be a lake, and the mountains looming are certainly larger but trust me, they are sister cities! Flagstaff impressed me for many reasons but the preservation and renovation of the historic downtown is top of the list. While there are dozens of lovely galleries, restaurants, shops, etc., I still expected to see cowboys ride up to the local watering hole. Flagstaff hasn't lost its personality at all. A little bit of history that was also of interest to me: "On July 4, 1876, a party of emigrants from Boston stripped a pine tree of its branches and raised an American flag in honor of the nation's centennial. When they moved on, their "flag staff" became a landmark for those who followed." Tomorrow, I head into the Grand Canyon for a week and will be off the grid!

Good morning! Am pleasantly surprised with your comments on Flagstaff---definitely not the town I went through 40 years ago. Burlington w/out the frigid temps. Did you run into either Ray or Charlie Babbitt???

AMG: Just seeing comments on Flagstaff. Did NOT see the Babbitts but BTW, Flagstaff is extremely cold & gets over 100" of snow/year! In fact, it's the coldest place I've been this year --- it was in the 30s most nights and that was the last week of May! About 30 degrees day time however!

Hey Judy -- still following your moves, just slammed at work and no time to pause until now. Love the pix of Flagstaff and your hotel. Curious, bc I am a space hog in mind but not in reality, do you select shared or solo room? And are you in the Grand Canyon by yourself?

TK: Glad the mail is arriving! Yes, Flagstaff was a great surprise and a good transition before I went into the tent for nearly 4 weeks. Really enjoyed the Grand Canyon but in awe of South Utah! Updates to come.
